Getting started

For Sellers

  1. 1Complete Seller Verification (identity, authority to sell, and ownership documents).
  2. 2Create a listing via Sell an Asset — add asset details, photos, location, condition, and documents.
  3. 3Set your starting bid, reserve, minimum increment, auction type, and dates.
  4. 4Confirm your ownership declaration and terms, then submit for Admin approval.
  5. 5Once approved and published, your auction goes live and verified bidders can register and bid.
  6. 6On closing, review the outcome, confirm subject-to-confirmation sales, then proceed to payment and a structured handover.

For Bidders

  1. 1Complete Bidder Verification to receive your bidder number and accept the auction rules and POPIA terms.
  2. 2Browse auctions and open a lot you're interested in.
  3. 3Register to bid on that lot — accept the rules and, if required, confirm your refundable deposit.
  4. 4Watch the current highest bid and minimum next bid. Enter your bid and review the confirmation screen.
  5. 5Submit. You'll see "Your bid has been submitted and timestamped." Keep an eye on the lot in case you're outbid.
  6. 6If you win, complete payment and handover. You and the Seller can then rate each other.

Auction types explained

Timed online

The most common format. The lot is live for a set window; the highest valid bid at closing wins (subject to reserve).

Reserve auction

The Seller sets a hidden reserve price. If bidding doesn't reach it, the Seller can accept or reject the highest bid where terms allow.

No reserve

There is no reserve. The highest binding bid wins, so every lot will sell to the top bidder.

Subject to confirmation

Bidding proceeds, but the outcome requires Seller acceptance within a set period after closing before the sale is finalised.

Sealed bid

Each bidder submits one private bid by the deadline. Bids are opened together and the highest eligible bid wins — no live bidding.

Buy now

A fixed buy-now price is offered. The first qualified bidder to meet it wins immediately, without waiting for a closing time.

How the process works

Anti-sniping

Late bids in the final window extend the closing time so everyone gets a fair shot.

Deposits

Refundable bidder deposits may be required for high-value lots. Refunded to non-winners.

Payment

Manual instructions or an approved partner. Crypto (Coinbase Commerce) supported where enabled.

Handover

A structured, category-specific checklist must be completed and confirmed by both parties.

Auction Rules

The rules that govern every Bidlink Auction. Sellers and bidders are bound by these rules and the Bidlink Auction Terms.

Eligibility

Only verified Sellers may list and verified Bidders may bid. Assets must be valued at R50,000 or more.

Bidding

All bids are binding and timestamped, and must meet the minimum next bid and increment. No self-bidding or linked-party bidding.

Prohibited items

Illegal, stolen, counterfeit goods, firearms, explosives, hazardous chemicals and unlicensed items may not be listed.

Privacy & POPIA

Public bid history shows bidder numbers only. Sensitive documents are private by default and document access is logged.

Reserve & outcomes

Reserve status is public; the amount shows only if the Seller discloses it. Subject-to-confirmation sales need Seller acceptance.

Deposits, payment & handover

Refundable bidder deposits where required. Manual or partner settlement, then a structured handover checklist completed by both parties.

Records & disputes

Every auction keeps a full audit trail and result record. Disputes are referred to Bidlink Admin for resolution.
